Kona’s Dog Training was the answer for our dog Bentley. When we first met with Gabby she listened and was very honest and created a plan to help Bentley. We were so relieved because we did not know how to help him overcome his fears. Bentley was a rescue puppy in a huge rescue facility. He was in a litter of 9 and the mother was a black lab and the father was thought to be an Aussie. Anyway Bentley was very scared of people and his surroundings. He would shake and try to hide or as Gabby put it, try to be invisible. Bentley is now three and was not getting better. I have never had a dog that would not take a treat for a reward. We did not know how to help him. He does very well hiking if no one else is on the trail and he loves going for walks, but once he hears children’s voices, or sees people walking, and or riding bikes he shuts down.
Since we have been with Kona Dog Training he is a totally different dog. We had one on one training with Gabby. Gabby taught us how to train and correct Bentley and helped us understand his behavior. She teaches the skills to use and explains things to help you better understand your pet. Her training was a simple pace that was designed for Bentley. If you put in your time you will see the results. Bentley is on the right track now and it will take some time, but we believe Bentley will overcome his fears of sounds and people because of the training and knowledge Gabby has provided.
Thank you Gabby for everything!

We adopted our pup, Mia, a couple years ago. When we first brought her home, there were no issues with barking, etc., but as time went on (and she bonded with us more) she started to get very protective of me. As such, she would bark the entire time we had company over at our house, or if she saw a dog on a walk. It became stressful to walk her and I stopped inviting people over to our house unless absolutely necessary.

Needless to say, I’m over the moon to have found Gabby. Gabby gave us the tools to help Mia feel secure and to trust that I will keep her safe (rather than her thinking she needs to protect me). In just a couple months of working with Gabby, Mia is more mellow and confident. She walks beautifully on leash, and it is honestly a joy to take her out because her on-leash reactivity has virtually disappeared. She listens to us more and calms down quickly when we have guests. It’s like we have a different dog.

What I appreciate most about Gabby’s method, is she offers a holistic approach to her training. First, we did individual classes to learn the basic skills. After that, we were able to transition to group classes where we really worked on getting Mia comfortable around other dogs on leash in a safe, controlled environment. I honestly couldn’t recommend Gabby enough – she’s made Mia’s life so much better and I’m so grateful for that.

I contacted Gabby because of some behavioral issues my dog was having. She explained everything in detail, from pricing to how the training would be conducted. My dog learned quickly and has retained what he learned from the training facility to our home. My pup continues to do well with more training and is a much happier and confident dog now.

We adopted a one year old Border collie/ Australian Heeler mix that had been abandoned in the desert. She had considerable fear aggression issues along with other challenges. Gabrielle assessed the situation and explained that the dog wasn’t giving us a hard time she was having a hard time and was reacting accordingly. It’s that kind of perspective that Gabrielle uses in her approach to training a dog owner. We’ve had some rough moments but Gabrielle has always been there for us and “Millie”. Gabrielle told us that Millie had encountered so many scary things in her short time on this earth that it may take some time for her to accept that her owners have everything under control. We’re grateful that we found Gabrielle to help us with Millie. We still have a lot of work to do but with Gabrielle’s help we know Millie is on her way to being a great family dog!

We adopted a rescue dog last December. Our dog, Maddie, had been returned to AZHS a number of times due to behavioral issues. We knew we were getting ourselves into a situation, but we felt Maddie deserved a permanent home, and, being retired, we felt we would be able to give her the stability she needed. We quickly found out that we had taken on more than we were capable of handling – Maddie’s behavior was out of control and we needed help. Fortunately, we found Kona’s and Gabrielle on the internet. We met with Gabrielle and found her engaging, knowledgeable, friendly and reasonable, and we put our trust in her.

We scheduled Maddie for her two-week boot camp with Gabrielle. We could not have made a better decision. Maddie learned her basic behavioral skills, walking, going to her “place” and her “crate,” and she calmed down dramatically. We knew that we would have to continue Maddie’s training once she returned home, and with Gabrielle’s help, we have worked diligently to make sure Maddie has continued on the road to being a good dog. As long as we follow Gabrielle’s no-nonsense training guidelines, we have a good dog who minds and is well trained. If we have any issues, Gabrielle always provides common sense and workable solutions, even many months later. Gabrielle has followed through and always addressed any questions or concerns we have had, right down to advice on a dog bowl.

We highly recommend Gabrielle and Kona’s Dog Training. You will not be disappointed. We are so grateful and thankful that we found Gabrielle, and we feel confident that she will always be there for us. Best of all, our Maddie has her forever home, and we have a good dog to love.

We’ve enjoyed so much working with Gabby. We knew we needed help with our dog Koda, but we were having trouble finding anyone in Northern Arizona (where we live) who would help us. Gabby was willing to work with us. She spent a whole hour video chatting with us to make sure her program was a good fit for us and Koda. She recognised all of Koda’s issues right away, which was a big relief. We decided her two week boarding program was what he needed to get started. He has made amazing progress. Our groomer even gave me a discount because he is so much better behaved. The groomer said it was like he grew up overnight. Since he came home Gabby has called and video chatted with us and answered all our questions promptly. I feel so much relief knowing that going forward she will be there to help. We are looking forward to spending more time with Gabby so we can get more training right along with Koda. 🙂

Kona’s Dog Training went above and beyond our expectations! We chose to have our dog Chauncey boarded and trained with Gabby for two weeks. As a Boston Terrier/French Bulldog mix, he suffered from separation anxiety (and anxiety in general) and would follow me around the house 24/7, jump on guests out of excitement, and bark at every little sound or person/animal walking by the house. Since his training, Chauncey is calm and SO well-behaved. We go for nice walks now and he could care less about the people and dogs walking by us. He is the BEST COMPANION. We owe that to the training, love, and care that Gabrielle has provided Chauncey. We are forever grateful.
